Adventure 3: Sammie & Folly Beach

Hey Everyone,
Sammie here, Ed handed me the leash this week to share one of my favorite adventures, Folly Beach.  First, let me quickly describe me and my BFF for you... work hard, vacation harder.  We know how to get the job done.  Between me guarding the house and him planning WAG!Fest, we were ready for a vacation and we knew exactly how we were going to spend it.  Three words: sun, sand, and sea turtles.  Last year's trip wasn't our first, but so far it was the best.  What more does a dog need in her life besides her BFF, long walks on the beach, down town Charleston, and partial piers?  Well, I guess I wouldn't mind the "No Dogs on Pier" rule to disappear.  It wasn't all play though, our trip was during the Sea Turtle nesting season.  I made it my personal duty to make sure none of the annoying tourists bothered the baby turtles who were trying their hardest to reach the ocean after hatching.  Of course, my BFF and I don't count as tourists... we're too naturally awesome at vacationing.
As always vacations come to an end.  Luckily though I have WAG!Fest to look forward to until our next one.  Don't forget to be there, August 27th at the Derby Bend Lake Area of Prairie Oaks Metro Parks starting at 11 am.  This will be your chance to enjoy some sun and water at the off-leash Water Bark Beach or visit the Kroger Ice Castle Oasis .  I just found out that the Dr. Oz of the Dog world, Dr. Mike Reidelbach of Grandview Animal Clinic, is going to do an Ask The Vet program at 4 pm on the Take A Bow-Wow Stage.  Also Nickers & Wags Equine & Canine Massage will be an exhibitor.  Say it with me, "Doggie Massage."  Maybe they will do one for my BFF, too.

Adventure 2- Ed and the A.T.

Hello again,
Ever been backpacking on the Appalachian Trail? I have!  I went with my BFF to Shenandoah National Park one summer.  She trained and trained for it – sometimes with me. Here’s a tip. When they put the pack on your back and tell you that you have to at least carry your food on these trips, put your ears back and slow down so that you are at least 100 feet behind them on the trail. Drives them crazy! It wasn’t long until she realized I wasn’t carrying no pack! Needless to say, my BFF carried my supplies (and hers) and I got to enjoy carefree hiking, complete with chasing bears and deer, without the extra 10 pound load. And, at the camp sites, I was a hero! I “marked” the perimeter – seems it kept the bears away at night (much to my chagrin). A heavenly experience all the way around. And, again, well worth the embarrassment of the attached photo, which my BFF found hilarious.

I am clearly not a beagle…whatever.

Hey, great news.  For a sneak peak on everything WAG! be sure to tune in to ABC Channel 6 Morning Show between 6 and 7AM or FOX 28 Good Day Columbus from 7 to 9AM on Wednesday, August 24th.  Keep your eyes open for Sam and her BFF, Mike, along with our other WAG!Fest friends of the four and two legged variety .

And of course don't forget to join us at WAG!Fest August 27, 2011.  It starts at 11AM at the Darby Bend Lake Area of Prairie Oaks Metro Park in Hillard.  I'm especially excited about the Buckeye Dock Dogs and the Southern Ohio Flying K9's demonstrations.  Sam is excited about the Dress to the Canines Fashion show presented by Moochie & Co. and hoping her BFF will buy her a new accessory, maybe a pearl necklace.  We're both super excited about all the yummy treats that will be available from other exhibitors and booths.

Stayed tuned for Adventure 3- Sam and Folly Beach of South Carolina.

Adventure One

Hey, Ed and Sam here.
Our BFF’s are the organizers of WAG!fest. Well, actually, we’re the impetus, but they’re very quick at catching on. More on that later. We’ve got important stuff to get to.
Welcome to Excellent Adventures with Ed and Sam! It’s the first dog blog dedicated to everything fierce for Fidos.
As you can see from our photos, we’re into adventure. (Please, I know. We indulge them for photos like this on occasion.)
                                                                            Ed
                                                                             Sam
Surf’s up, come on down! Hiking? Call us, we’ll scout it out. Cycling? We’re lapping it up. Snooze marathons? We’re there and on the bed!
A little background about us. Sam’s a city dog – loves Goodale Park and chasing balls -- watch out for that tree – bonk! She hit her head earlier this year fetching some great sympathy from her BFF! And, me, Ed, I’m a country dog. I live out on a farm in Fairfield County – chase deer and ground hogs on a daily basis. Sam visits me out here often. Her favorite activity is rolling in our horse manure. I get a huge kick out of that (her BFF, sadly, does not)!
In addition to being adventurers, we have part time duties as ambassadors for WAG! It’s Saturday, August 27, at Darby Bend Lakes Area of Prairie Oaks Metro Park, located in Hilliard. Grab your BFF and get there! Sure, there’s stuff for our people, but the activities for we four-leggeds is awesome – Pep step at the WAG! Wilderness Walk. Skinny dip at the Water Bark Beach.  Exercise make you hungry? There are treats galore at various vendor tents!  Perhaps you’re into bling – plenty to go around at WAG!
We’ll keep you posted on the latest – in our excellent adventures and with WAG!fest – stay tuned!!
